Overview

Center for Business and Entrepreneurial Development (CBED), established in the year 2005, is a registered society (under the Societies Registration Act, 1860 on December 28, 2005). CBED is a fully locally owned and staffed organization, with a special focus to promote self-reliant cooperatives and farmer-owned and managed marketing and other livelihood support activities.

Our Mission

CBED initiatives are aimed at social wellbeing, livelihood security and improving local biodiversity and ecology of Uttarakhand and other Himalayan states of India.

Our History

The organisation was set-up with the objective to carry forward the successful livelihood models created under the CIDA funded Community Based Economic Development project of the Canadian Centre for International Studies and Cooperation (CECI). The team members of the Community Based Economic Development project of CECI in India, came together to form the new local organisation, the Center for Business and Entrepreneurial Development (CBED), in December 2005, when CECI concluded its activities in India. Center for Business and Entrepreneurial Development (CBED), consolidated the best practices and later implemented these projects to  improve the livelihoods in different parts of Uttarakhand.

Our Expertise

CBED has gained expertise in community institutionalization, collective rural farming and marketing, economic, health and enterprise literacy and education, farm productivity enhancement and technology dissemination in rural Uttarakhand. Gender is a cross-cutting component of every intervention by CBED in economic development of rural areas.

The organisation has unique strength in:

● Establishing, promoting and strengthening of producer, savings, artisan and other cooperatives under the Self Reliant Cooperative Act.
● Implementing sustainable rural agriculture projects and agribusiness enterprises in Uttarakhand.
● Imparting training and extension programs for rural and youth development.
