Livelihood

CBED works with the main objective to reduce poverty in hill districts of Uttarakhand by enabling rural households to take up sustainable livelihood opportunities integrated with the wider economy. The major approach that adopted by CBED in reducing poverty is mobilizing rural households into representatives and self managed institutions (SHG’s) at the grassroots level. Cooperatives and federations set up by us are helping in improving the livelihoods of the rural households. The organization has trained community leaders, farmers and entrepreneurs as master trainers in economic community development activities. Most of these are engaged in handicraft, vegetable farming, fruit processing and value addition of local produce.

Major Projects/Activities done in this area:

  • Livelihood Enhancement through Ganoderma Medicinal Mushroom Production (Tehri and Dehradun, Uttarakhand, 2019-ongoing).
  • Sustaining livelihood through rain water harvesting for small scale productive use’ –promotion of medicinal plants in intercropping (Devprayag, Uttarakhand, 2017-ongoing).
  • Livelihood Enhancement through Integration of mushroom cultivation and dairy farming (Jaunpur, Tehri, Uttarakhand, 2017-2020).
  • The Integrated Livelihood Support Project (ILSP) (Jaunpur, Tehri and Munakot, Pithoragarh, Uttarakhand, 2015-2020).

 

  • The Education and Literacy project (ELP) (Champawat and Pithoragarh, Uttarakhand, 2006-2011).
  • Feasibility analysis and planning of fruit processing and value addition of medicinal plants and spices (Pithoragarh, Uttarakhand, 2009).
  • Impact assessment study of bamboo and fiber based livelihood promotion activities (Chamoli, Udham Singh Nagar, Pithoragarh and Champawat, Dehradun and Haridwar, 2008)

Our Impact

  • Over 100 community based formal institutions (Cooperatives and Federations) are established.
  • Over 3000 Producer/ Self Help Groups/ Farmer Interest Groups have been organized.
  • 345 Literacy centers are established.
  • 6000 illiterate members (98% women) are benefited.
  • 40 Cooperative libraries are installed in Uttarakhand.

Natural Resource Management

CBED is engaged in NRM activities and has supported the State Biodiversity Board in documentation of local biodiversity in Tehri District. Also, CBED provides technical advisory in spring shed management and in this regard has supported the Uttarakhand Forest Department in developing Technical reports on spring revival in Uttarakhand. 

Major Projects/Activities done in this area:

  • Detailed Technical Report preparation of Springshed Management (Nainital, Uttarakhand, 2019).
  • People Biodiversity Register (PBR) for State Biodiversity Board (Tehri, Uttarakhand, 2017-2020).
  • Bio resource assessment and value chain analysis of ABS potential species/products (Haridwar, Pauri, Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand, 2017-18).
  • Detailed Project Report (DPR) Preparation for micro watershed management planning under Integrated Watershed Management Program (IWMP) (Narendranagar, Uttarakhand, 2013-14).

Our Impact

  • 6 People Biodiversity Register (PBR) were made in Tehri Garhwal.
  • Worked on rejuvenation of 9 springs in Nainital.
  • Covered 50 revenue villages in 29 GPs in Narendranagar block for DPR preparation.

Agribusiness Development

CBED provides training on various aspects of agriculture and allied sectors to students and young entrepreneurs. CBED is recognized as Nodal Training Institute (NTI) by MANAGE, Ministry of Farmers Welfare and Agriculture Development, Government of India. CBED has trained more than 1000 entrepreneurs on agriculture and horticulture components like Mushroom cultivation, Bee-keeping, Organic Farming etc.

Major Projects/Activities done in this area:

  • Agri Clinic and Agri Business Center (ACABC) Scheme, MANAGE Hyderabad, Ministry of Agriculture and Farmer’s Welfare (2019-onwards).
  • The Livelihood Enhancement through Agribusiness projects (Augustmuni, 2010-2014).
  • The Vipanan Sewa Project (VSP) – Agri-business development project for cooperatives (Champawat and Pithoragarh, Uttarakhand (2005-2009).

Our Impact

  • Trained more than 1000 students under Agriculture & Horticulture programs.
  • Trained 85 students so far on Agri-business Development under ACABC Scheme.
  • 20 candidates successfully established their ventures.
